We played against our local rivals Killylough tonight in the the U-13 Shield final in front of a packed stadium. The two teams had met earlier in the league with the spoils going both ways so it was billed to be a tense affair and it didn't disappoint. United started the brighter of the two with a number of early attacks up front led by Ethan Connolly which resulted in our first goal after 15mins after a period of sustained pressure from the mid field with Sean Leonard and Daimhin Brett controlling things. However we didn't have all our own way and only for some vital interceptions from Oisin Thornton, Bobby O Brien and Jamie Sheridan it may have been a completely different story. It finished 1-0 at half time. In the second half the Killylough men came out fighting and began to dominant the midfield battle but then a fantastic strike by Darragh O Malley at the edge of the box settled united nerves after some lovely build up play from Leo Rooney and Ruairi Leonard. Then as the half wore on and with Killylough pushing up the field gaps began to appear in their defense and Ethan Connolly popped up again to make it 3-0 and that is how it finished with united running out the Shield champions after a very tough season.
